The haze is back...

For the 3rd time this month, the Pollutant Standard Index is reading an unhealthy 130. All this since the prevailing southwesterly winds and Indonesia's continual refusal/omission/inability to tackle the blazing fires in Sumatra caused by recalcitrant farmers clearing their lands. From this haze map, this is not a localised problem. So far, all we've seen are the politicans forming committees to talk talk talk with no concrete action plans.



On the street level, people are suffering. Staying indoors, cancelling weekend plans. Coughing fits and wheezing dogs. Stepping off the train to work every morning and being hit by this pervasive stench of burnt wood. The oppressive heat and the stifling still air does not help. We have not had any decent amounts of rain for ever.
