Malapascua/Cebu - 29/12/06 - 31/12/06
Back from my so-called beach holiday.
After a butt-numbing 4 hour flight followed by 3 hour bumpy car ride and a very wet hour long boat transfer, we stepped foot on Malapascua only to find this.

Instead of warm welcoming sunshine, we were stuck in the island named "Bad Christmas" by an equally drenched Spaniard back in the 1500s. Our sympathies were with poor old Magellan as we were caught outdoors again with the non-stop rain.

We were housed in some run down dumphole in the middle of the village with no hot water and no electricity from 8 am till 5 pm. Not to mention some real bad karaoke singing next door.

The diving here was pleasant but quite forgettable like a casual first date. We were up at some ungodly hour hoping to catch the miserable creatures during their pre-dawn ablutions but they were not very sporting. Maybe the thresher sharks were hiding in some dark cave in Monad Shoal bitching about the miserable weather and no cable TV.

The only consolation was the inexpensive home-style Italian food at La Dolce Vita. We were so impressed that we decided to eat Italian every single meal. It was a long way to go for good pizza quattro formaggi.

After 2 days in this pisspot, we decided to make a run for it and boarded the ferry back to Cebu in search of friendlier skies. Watching those boys struggle to keep the boat afloat, we were not sad to leave Bad Christmas behind.
