Things we missed while diving...
Sigh... how life passes by so fast when you're lost in the enticing depths, offline:
1. Elitism. In response to a impassioned plea submitted to the Straits Times by a middle aged middle class middle manager, Ms Wee Shu Min (pictured here in black bikini and with facial blemish) a 18yo humanities scholar in a leading educational instutition retorted: "Get out of my elite uncaring face". Her father, Mr Wee Siew Kim, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC went on to support her daughter's views as the "brutal truth".
2. Bang the bus. SBS Transit launches its campaign to encourage public communters to "Flag the Bus Early". So its our fault that public buses don't stop for passengers at public bus stops?
3. Unnatural pixelated fantasies. The Media Development Authority (MDA aka the Censors, Thought Police) fined Starhub Cable Vision S$10,000 for screening the TV series "Cheaters" which purportedly contains footage of lesbian sex and bondage. MDA feels that the ending in the episode which features a husband accepts having 3somes with his bisexual wife and another woman, promotes lesbianism as a lifestyle.
Nevermind that all sex scenes are pixelated and the series is aired past midnight. Or that most healthy heterosexual men would fantasise about being in bed with two women.
4. Rich but not free. Singapore plunges to a new low in the latest Press Freedom Index to 146th place for the government taking legal action against foreign media. How much lower can we go?
5. Singapore Slings. Our very first professional basketball team, the Singapore Slingers lost 102-98 to the Cairns Taipan. Maybe because there are only 2 singaporeans on the team. Bounce those balls, Slingers!
