What a weekend!

What the hell happened to our safe nation this weekend?

- Fresh from obtaining summary judgment two opposition figures, our Prime Minister and his father MM Lee has filed a writ against the Far East Economic Review for an allegedly libelous article. The writ was filed after the magazine was compelled to establish a presence in Singapore and post a $200,000 security bond.
(Edit:21/09/2006 - Although the magazine doesn't seem to care. ROCK ON!!!)

- Our gaffe-prone Minister of State for Foreign Affairs & Information, Communications and The Arts Dr Balaji admitted that MITA and Today had responded poorly to the Mr Brown Affair.

- There is a protest march on Hong Lim Park in the middle of Chinatown!!! The protestors (ie 6 of the participants have been surrounded by our men in blue and contained for the good of the country.

- In the meantime, Singapore is reported to have deported even more people from the IMF/WB summit expected to open today.

- After $100 millions and so many hours of preparations, no one is even talking about the splendours of our flower lined streets and all the heart-stakingly planned schedules for culinary delights/tours lined up for the VVIPs and their spouses, except Channel News Asia of course!

What's going on? We trusted our government to keep this place safe and peaceful for us to go shopping and raise our kids. How can they let this happen while we're under the international limelight?
